Summer School: "The European Union in World Politics. What Power? What Leadership? A multidisciplinary approach" - NEW DEADLINE: JULY 12.
Data Inizio: 31/07/2015 Data Fine: 31/07/2015
Tipo Seminari e convegni
As part of the Centre of Excellence activities in reaching out to students, Punto Europa organizes the Summer School “The European Union in World Politics. What Power? What Leadership? A multidisciplinary approach”. Our aim is to bring talented students from around the world to spend an intensive academic period in the beautiful city of Bertinoro. Selected international academics as well as practitioners will take part to this five-days academic program where concrete aspects of important social, economic and political problems are going to be tackled, contributing to the understanding of selected current issues while fostering the international dialogue.
Specifically, the intensive course will be directed to the study of patterns concerning the European Power in relation to the rest of the world. This topic is particularly important and timely for several reasons: the EU is widely appreciated for its specific international stance (as a sort of civilian power of a new sort), but few consider it to be a world leader. In addition, the possible internal impact of the EU’s external stance will be explored: as well as the interaction with the external environment can be considered as a gradual result of the integration process, the endurance of this process (and its positive results) also depends on the ability of the Union to effectively interact with the external environment. The general aim of the course will be therefore to show how and why the EU has come to assume the status of a global power, and to what extent this status affects the international context.
The topic will be addressed through four subthemes closely interrelated: security, migration, human rights and external relations (see the program). The main feature of this intensive course will be indeed its multidisciplinary approach: lecturers will be university professors specialized in history, law, economics, political science, sociology and political philosophy, ensuring a detailed study of the topic by adopting a truly interdisciplinary perspective, and high-level EU officials. This will guaranty a constructive dialogue and will foster a significant cross fertilization.
All participants and attendees who fulfill the requirements during the program will be awarded with certificates by Punto Europa, Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence.
